GALEON-ALCON, María Raquel y MOYA, Isabel. Some aspects of the natural history of nectar-feeding bat Anoura peruana (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) in the valley of La Paz. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2019, vol.54, n.1, pp.5-17. ISSN 1605-2528.
Bats in the valley of La Paz are a little studied group, until the year 1991 it was estimated the presence of four species. Later in 2015, they were reported to other species, among them the nectar feeding bat Anoura peruana. The accelerated urban growth in the city of La Paz is causing the loss due to land use change. Therefore, the objective of this work was to provide contributions to the knowledge of the natural history and ecology oí Anoura peruana in the Valley of La Paz, for which we captured bats in three types of areas. From the bats captured, samples of pollen and feces were collected for the determination of the diet. As results, we present the description of their possible foraging areas and shelters. We also found that Anoura peruana would be feeding on 14 species of plants that make up the native vegetation and cultivated locally This information suggests that A. peruana plays an important role in the maintenance of ecosystems in the valleys of La Paz and also allowed us to propose some actions that contribute to the conservation of this species.
