Resumen

COPA ALVARO, María Eugenia; MENDIETA, Geovana Shirley  y  DEANE, Amy L.. Potential distribution of short-tailed chinchilla (Chinchilla chinchilla, Rodentia) in SW Bolivia. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2014, vol.49, n.2, pp.65-76. ISSN 1605-2528.

Currently, the presence of short-tailed chinchilla (Chinchilla chinchilla), abundant in the South American Andean over the last century has been documented in a few locations in northern Chile and Argentina; in Bolivia although their presence is highly probable, the last accurate records date from 1939. Hunting with fur purposes decreased the wild population which resulted in conservation status "Critically Endangered" globally. In this context, the search for remnant populations has been considered a priority by specialists on the species. To collaborate in this task, we generate a predictive model of the ecological niche of the species using Maxent algorithm based on past and current records within and outside the country. The projection indicated the increased presence probability (predictive values between 0.7-1.0) is associated to the area of the National Reserve of Andean Fauna Eduardo Avaroa and on the border with Chile, all about this in xerophytic Puna biogeographic province in the floors and both subnival and nival sites of western Andean Cordillera.
