Resumen

PINTO-LEDEZMA, Jesús N. et al. A spatial explicit habitat model for the Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacintinus) in the Bolivian Pantanal (Santa Cruz, Bolivia). Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2014, vol.49, n.2, pp.51-64. ISSN 1605-2528.

Given the current conservation crisis, many bird populations are declining due to anthropogenic actions that lead to the destruction of its habitats. The aim of the present study is to model the relationship between landscape characteristics and the presence of the Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), to generate a spatial explicit map, that indicate the potential suitable areas for the conservation of this species in the Bolivian Pantanal. We develop a resource selection function model (RSF), based on spatial landcover data and species data. This model provides quantitative data on habitats and indicates the suitable areas for hyacinth macaw based on the relative provability of detecting the species in the study are as a response of the specie to a group of habitat variables. The selected model has the lowest value of Delta AICc (∆ = 0) of all models considered, also showing a high accuracy (AUC = 0.856, P < 0.05). Our findings indicate that is possible to develop spatially explicit models based on species occurrence data and landcover data, which indicate the suitability of landscape for target species. However, this is the first for the region, for that the model presented here must be considered as exploratory.
