Resumen

LOPEZ, Lidio; VILLALBA, Ricardo  y  PENA-CLAROS, Marielos. The Growth rings of Centrolobium microchaete (Fabaceae, Papilionoideae), a tool for assessing forest management of tropical dry forests of the Bolivian Cerrado. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2011, vol.46, n.2, pp.77-94. ISSN 1605-2528.

We used information from growth rings of Centrolobium microchaete to calculate growth rates, age and time required to reach a certain diameter in the districts of Chiquitos and Guarayos from the biogeographical province of the Bolivian Cerrado. The average annual increment over more than 80 years was 0.41 for Chiquitano and 0.61 cm for Guarayos, which indicate that the growth species is slow and variable between sites and districts. The long times needed to growth from one diameter class to the next one, show that the species require older than 100 and 80 years to reach the minimum cutting diameter (MCD) established in Bolivia. The results indicate that growth rates are low and variable between species and times to reach the MCD are high, so imposing fixed patterns within regions for all species would not be sustainable on the long range to support Bolivian tropical forest management.

Palabras clave : Growth of rings; Growth rates diameter; Minimum cutting diameter and management.
