Resumen

HUANCA-HUARACHI, Gladis; HERRERA, José Carlos  y  NOSS, Andrew J.. Population density and habitat use of the paca (Cuniculus paca) in the north of the Amboró-Carrasco conservation complex. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2011, vol.46, n.1, pp.4-13. ISSN 1605-2528.

The population size of game species is little studied in the forests of Bolivia. We estimated the population density of paca (Cuniculus paca) and described habitat use by line transects conducted in 2005 and 2006. The estimated density of 6.9 ind/km2 is similar to that of the only other study in Bolivia and lower than estimates from other countries. The difference between habitats was not significant, but a positive correlation exists between paca density and tree size. Hunting for subsistence and the progress of agricultural and livestock areas into natural forests affect the sites, but human population density did not show a significant correlation with paca abundance.
