VEGA-KRSTULOVIC, Cecilia; BERMEJO-FRANCO, Juan Carlos  e  VILLEGAS-ALVARADO, Gabriela. Massive propagation of Polylepis tomentella Weddell ssp. nana through in vitro culture techniques. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2007, vol.42, n.2, pp.102-120. ISSN 1605-2528.

Polylepis tomentella ssp. nana is an endemic species from Bolivia , only reported in the Arani province ( Cochabamba); it is considered endagered (EN). It is necessary the development of initiatives that promote their conservation, being an alternative the use of plant tissue culture techniques. Apical buds were used, disinfected in sodium hipoclorite and ethanol, evaluating the effect of immersion time, the activated charcoal addition and the application of an antioxidant solution for their in vitro establishment. The explants obtained were introduced in Chu et al. (1975) basal medium. For the multiplication phase, the buds were subdivided and introduced in Tremblay & Lalonde (1984) medium, changing the phytoregulators concentration in order to increase the buds by explant. For the rooting phase, the effect of media was compared through the number and length of roots. The best treatment for the disinfection of apical buds was the immersion in sodium hipoclorite solution (2%) by 10 minutes. The application of citric acid / ascorbic acid solution was effective for the oxidation control. The addition of activated charcoal to culture medium had an inhibitory effect on the growth, even genera ting the tissue necrosis. For the in vitro multiplication, the best medium, was Tremblay & Lalonde (1984) added with 0,23 mg/1 bencil aminopurine and 0,1 mg/1 indol butyric acid. The best treatment for the radicular formation and vitroplant development was 50% Mc Cown & Lloyd (1980) culture medium, added with 50 g/1 sucrose and 0,1 mg/lindo! acetic acid.
