NAOKI, Kazuya et al. A comparison of species distribution models to predict wildlife's potential distribution in Bolivia. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2006, vol.41, n.1, pp.65-78. ISSN 1605-2528.
Species distribution models based on geographical information system are powerful tools to predict the potential distribution of species and to help in taking tentative decisions in conservation. Currently several models are available for biologists; however, these models tend to predict significantly different distributions. The objective of this study is to compare the efficiency and accuracy of four commonly used species distribution models (BIOCLIM, DOMAIN, GARP, and logistic regression) to predict the distribution of three wildlife species in Bolivia. The model DOMAIN that uses a similarity index showed the best performance. The prediction tends to be better for habitat specialist species than to generalists.
