ROLDAN, Alejandra I. y LARREA, Daniel M.. Phenology of 14 zoochoric tree species in a Yungas forest of Bolivia. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2003, vol.38, n.2, pp.125-140. ISSN 1605-2528.
We present two years (October 1998 - October 2000) of phenological data for 14 arboreal species whose fruits are consumed by frugivores, as the first phase of a larger phenological study underway in the Yungas Forest of the Parque Nacional y Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Cotapata (Bolivia). We recorded percentage of flower buds, flowers, predispersal fruits, dispersing fruits and leaves at biweekly or monthly intervals. Reproductive structures’ production was associated with seasonal patterns of precipitation. Inmature flowers were present mainly during the dry season, anthesis occured mainly during late dry season and the first half of the wet season. Most of the species had fruits during the wet season. In spite of this loose association of flowering and fruiting with precipitation, reproductive structures were recorded all year round. To have a clearer picture of the phenological patterns, it is necessary to increase the number of species studied and also the period of data collection.
