Abstract

The Tunquini Biological Station (EBT) was created in order to sponsor scientific studies in biology and conservation in the mountain forest of Bolivia. There is scarce information about its diversity, therefore, the vegetation map for this area at 1:50.000 provides a base for subsequent studies. Eight vegetation units were differentiated for the surrounding areas of the EBT: five that belong to natural vegetation units (páramo yungueño, sub páramo yungueño, ceja de montaña, cloud forest, and humid mountain forest), two of anthropogenic origin and influence (intervened forest and the zone cultivation of and pastures of antropic origin) and one unit derived of both origins human and natural (pioneer vegetation on landslides). All were differentiated according to outlined classification criteria by others (Cuatrecasas 1979, 1989, Cleef 1981, Beck 1988, Gonzáles et al. 1990, Beck et al. 1993, Rangel 1995, Ribera 1995, Ribera et al. 1996) for similar areas.
