HERZOG, Sebastian K. y KESSLER, Michael. Diet of an oilbird (Steatornis caripensis) colony in Carrasco National Park, Cochabamba, Bolivia. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 1997, n.30, pp.69-73. Epub 31-Oct-1997. ISSN 1605-2528.
In 1996 we collected a random sample of seeds regurgitated by oilbirds (Steatornis caripensis - Stealomithidae) at a cave in Carrasco National Park, Bolivia. The sample contained seeds of at least 15 tree species, with Lauraceae (48.8% of the seeds, at least 3 species) and Paimae (48.4%, 10 species) being the dominant families. The composition of the sample showed that the oilbirds use a wide elevational range on the eastem Andean slope as forraging grounds and that they play an important ecological role as dipersers of large tree seeds.
