Abstract
RAMIREZ-AVILA, Gonzalo Marcelo. Theoretical study of the action of ionizing radiations on the cancer cells population dynamics. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2017, vol.31, n.31, pp.25-34. ISSN 1562-3823.
Abstract Lotka-Volterra-based population models were proposed for cancerous, normal and effector cells; the latter related to the immunological system. The first model is the basis of the dynamics of cell populations (cancerous, normal and immune effectors) and their interactions. The second model only considers the radiation action on the malignant cells, while, the third one also takes into account the effect on the healthy cells. A linear stability analysis of the systems of nonlinear differential equations related to each model was performed, as well as, an exploration of the parameter values considering as an indicator the largest Lyapunov exponent. We found that the radiation affects the cellular populations which exhibit changes in their dynamical regimes. The latter indicates that the value of the parameters can be modulated, in particular, those linked to the radiation to diminish the population of the cancerous cells. This is an important result that has the potential to optimize radiotherapy treatments.
