Abstract

This work sets out to study the atmospheric features of Bolivia's Altiplano region at 3800 masl, as a means to estimate the region's wind power potential. We simultaneously collected data: wind speed and direction as well as temperature, air pressure and humidity, at five-minute intervals at 3 meters above ground level during the period September 2010 to January 2012. Density and turbulence intensity variations were also considered. We analyzed average wind power levels for seasonal, monthly and daily time periods. The obtained results indicate an interesting coincidence between energy demand and supply.
