Using the X-ray fluorescence by total reflection technique, we carried out measurements of zinc concentrations in the hair of children living in the Bolivian high plateau regions (within the age range from 8 to 13 years old). The results allow us to make a first assessment of nutritional levels in children; the latter combined with the determination of the body mass index, results in a measure characterized by its simplicity and non-invasiveness. This work is complementary to other biological and medical tests
