We study the distribution of electromagnetic power within a metallic enclosure when exposed to a monochromatic plane wave that passes through a slit located on the enclosure. We use the method of replacing the slit with a source of electric and magnetic fields and calculate the corresponding currents. This analytical method yields the vector potentials and the fields, and thereafter we calculate the time-average of the Poynting vector, which allows to draw a "map" of the electromagnetic power within the enclosure. The model for the "radiant slit" is a rectangular wave guide so that the appropriate boundary conditions are satisfied. The analytical expressions produced by this work are evaluated numerically to obtain the "map", as well as to verify the known limiting cases of small wavelength and a wavelength comparable in size to the slit dimensions. When the slit has a null size we obtain the Faraday cage effect, as expected. The general results of this work are satisfactory and allow for their experimental verification.
