Abstract

ARNAUD GERARD, A.. THE SONAGRAM: A PRACTICAL REPRESENTATION OF SOUNDS. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.18, pp.37-49. ISSN 1562-3823.

The sonagram (also referred to as a sonogram and a spectrogram) is a diagram of frequency as a function of time, where the thickness of a point or a line indicates qualitatively the level of the sound. This is, we can observe in this two-dimensional diagram the three sound variables (frequency, time and sound level). This diagram was originally designed for analyzing speech; today this diagram is extremely useful for studying a broad range of sounds because it gives a complete and easy to interpret representation of sound phenomena.

Keywords : acoustical measurements; acoustic instruments.
