Abstract
FLORES, F. and SAN ROMAN, J.. POST-COMPRESSION OF PULSES WITH DIFFERENT TIME PROFILES. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2011, vol.17, n.17, pp. 29-34. ISSN 1562-3823.
We studied five time profiles to identify which pulses are most suitable for post-compression through a hollow fiber. The corresponding profile functions analyzed were: Gaussian, hyper- bolic secant, super-Gaussian and two inverted asymmetric Gaussians. The ultra short pulses were propagated using a hollow fiber filled with Argon. We used input pulses with similar widths in order to compare their spectral dispersion after the non-linear propagation. The dispersion and non-linear effects were studied separately before considering them as a whole. We found that of all the profile functions analyzed the hyperbolic secant presents the greatest spectral dispersion and the smallest spectral phase, and as such better facilitates the occurrence of phase compensation.
Keywords : nonlinear optics; pulse compression.
