CHOQUE SAIRE, M. P.. LA OCARINA DE ZANAHORIA A CARROT OCARINA. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.17, pp.43-47. ISSN 1562-3823.

In pre Colonial wind instruments sound is produced through the vibration of an air column such as in the Quena, Zampona and Tarka. A less well known wind instrument of the same family is the Ocarina whose fabrication and tuning are particularly difficult. The Ocarina is a small wind instrument with a high pitch (523 - 1046 kHz) and is found in many forms and designs. The instrument is arduous to make given that it is usually crafted from materials such as ceramic or wood and is composed of a hollow centre and finger holes of varying or equal diameter This difficulty can be remedied by using a more pliable and yet durable material that can be formed into an elongated, and cylindrical form. Looking into the possible available alternative materials the carrot was chosen. The carrot met all the requirements although the material shrinks over time due to dehydration.

Palavras-chave : musical instruments; acoustical properties of solids.
