Abstract
MIRANDA LOZA, Pedro and AVILA ELIAS, Fabricio G.. THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A FPGA MULTI CHANNEL OSCILOSCOPE (LAGO PROJECT). Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.17, pp.27-31. ISSN 1562-3823.
Two instruments based on FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) were designed and constructed for the LAGO (Large Aperture GRB Observatory) project. The instruments allow the observation of electric signáis producedby variations in high energy gamma rays. The instruments developed were: a high velocity basic digital storage oscilloscope which enables the observation of variations in electrical signáis over time, a multi channel analyzer that supports quantative data and picks up on the frequency at which electrical signáis reach certain voltages. Both instruments opérate with Language Description Hardware, a high velocity digital and reprogrammable hardware. The collection and storage of data is performed using a computer that facilítates access to the instruments' control functions. For this purpose original software was developed in C++. The design and function of the instruments were tested by connecting them to a real detector at the Cosmic Physics Laboratory at Chacaltaya, Bolivia.
