CHAMANI, W.; TICONA, R. y RICALDI, E.. OBSERVATION OF SOLAR NEUTRONS AND THE EFFECTS ON THE EARTHS MAGNETIC FIELD ASSOCIATEDWITH THE SOLAR FLARE OF THE 2ndNOVEMBER 2003. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.17, pp.22-26. ISSN 1562-3823.
On the 2ndNovember 2003 at 17:03:00 (GMT) there was a solar fiare recorded by the GOES satellite. The event was also registered at 17:17:24 (GMT) by the Neutrón Monitor (NM-64) of the Cosmic Physics Laboratory located at Mount Chacaltaya in Bolivia. The fiare produced changes in the intensity of the local geomagnetic field (F) affecting all three vector components -horizontal component (H), declination (D) and the vertical component (Z). Records of the increase in relation to average valúes of the aforementioned components were observed at 71 nT, 10 degrees and \9nT at the Geomagnetic Observatory at Patacamaya (Bolivian Altiplano) and the net increase of the F field estimated at 66nT registered by the Geomagnetic Observatory at Villa Remedios. The duration of the neutrón and magnetic signáis were between 40 and 54 minutes approximately. This demónstrates that the fiare was intense and that the emission of neutrons took place over a long period of time.
