Abstract

CALCINA, M.. A DYNAMIC GEOMAGNETIC FIELD MODEL. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2009, vol.15, n.15, pp.44-62. ISSN 1562-3823.

A model was elaborated that considers the external influence of the solar magnetic cycle and the Earth's rotation effects on the geomagnetic field. This involved the solution of the magnetohydrodynamic homogenous diffusión equation. The equation is put as a function of the magnetic potential AAAA, and considers the influencing factors of solar wind, and the frequency of the Earth's rotation around the Sun. The non homogeneous equation was then solved using perturbation techniques where the influencing factor of the solar magnetic cycle was considered (inter planetary magnetic field of solar origin). This factor is introduced to the differential equation as an external factor using the harmonic oscilating criteria. To obtain the H and Z geomagetic components as a function of time and location and to compare with observational data the homogenous solution's reference system is changed to that of the geomagnetic component system. The solution is compared with and adjusted to reflect data from seven world stations. Finally with these adjustments we obtain parameters and estimate the Earth's dipolar magnetic momentum. The adjustment of the non homogeneous solution is not carried out due to the significant dispersión of the data when compared with the average interplanetary magnetic field values. As such we cannot say that this solution represents the variations experienced due to the external magnetic field.

Keywords : geomagnetism; magnetohydrodynamics.
