A method to model hats enabling the analysis and comparison of their physical qualities, such as, protection from UV solar radiation was developed. The modelling method was validated through experimental results obtained using a mannequin exposed to the sun. Simulations were run to better understand which are the main variables that affect the performance of the hats. After an analysis of the economic and technical feasibility of fabricating the different hats, three hat designs were chosen for further study and simulations: traditional baseball cap, a cap with side flaps (wings) and a cap with an elliptic flap.
