ZARATTI, Francesco. THE OZONE CRISIS, THE CLIMATE CRISIS: SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2009, vol.15, n.15, pp.19-21. ISSN 1562-3823.
The ozone crisis which arose out of the invention and rnass use of CFCs, non toxic industrial substances, carne to a turning point in the 80's when a rapid consensus was reached as to its human causes and solution. Based on the concept of sustainable development immediate economic and political measures were taken to stop the damage to the ozone and restore the ozone layer to its normal conditions. Success was obtained through an all too rare consensus held between scientists, politicians and economists. On the other hand global warming despite a growing body of evidence continúes to be subject to controversy as to its causes and surrounded by doubts regarding solutions. The climate crisis is more global in nature than that of the ozone. It also has more profound cost and lifestyle implications for the industrialized world. These factors make the solution to the climate crisis more complex.
