Infant mortality in Bolivia is the second highest in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a difference between different regions of the country. Mortality studies show an inadequate system of records, poorly controlled pregnancies, home birth, missed opportunities for health education, lack of alarm level, and inadequate response of the health system. In this context, sudden infant death might have high incidence and although it is not the leading cause of infant mortality, shares with other causes, many of the risk factors. The implementation of a risk reduction campaign has to cover specific community aspects. An anthropological view of medicine includes as agents of health education the community leaders, people who regularly attend home birth and the school. Health care providers should incorporate into their daily practice the issue of reducing the risk of infant sudden death. The aim of this paper is to focus on sudden infant death syndrome reduction campaigns from the perspective of the local community. The decline in mortality from this and other causes is a commitment of every member of the community, professionals, non-governmental and governmental institutions.
