Resumen

Objectives: to evaluate the nutrition knowledge of medical students in their last year, during the 2005 academic period. Design: descriptive and transversal study. Place: Hospital del Niño “Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría” and Hospital Materno Infantil, both located in the city of La Paz. Material and methods: the study used a 30 questions questionare related to basic knolewledge of physiology epidemiology, diagnostic aspects and general management of nutrition, and answered annomously by 121 students. Each correct answer was asigned one point obtaining a global and by fields results and the results were statiscally analized using the data base Epi Info 2000. Results: the total of the student in both hospitals participated of the test. None answered correctly more than 25 questions and less than nine. The minimun score was achieved by 60% of students. The porcentaje correct answers for physiology was 56.4%, for epidemiology 46%, for diagnosis 56.2% and for general aspects of nutritional management 60%. Conclusions: only 60% answered correctly the question. We need to reinforce the teaching and practice of nutrition en the medical schools.
