We understand for hydronephrosis the dilatation of the collecting renal system and for obstruction the restriction to the urinary outflow that, left untreated, will cause progressive renal deterioration. Objective.-to show the experience of neonatal hydronephrosis in pediatric nephrology unit of the Infantile Maternal Hospital of the Caja Nacional de Salud. Methodology.-Retrospective, longitudinal, descriptive, observational and clinical study. They were included patient of the external consultation with diagnostic of pelvic dilatation or hydronephrosis, smaller than three months to the moment of the diagnosis, of the 2003 - 2005. Each patient had renal sonography, voiding cystourethrogram and those with anteroposterior pelvic diameter (DAP) >15 mm diuretic renogram. Results.-12 patients were revised with pelvic dilatation, nine males and three women, ten and 70% with unilateral and left kidney dilatation, respectively; five patients presented DAP >15 mm. None presents vesicoureteric reflux, eight resolve spontaneously. Three of four patients with DAP >15 mm had surgically treatment. Two patients had relative renal function < 40%, one of them doesn’t improve. Conclusion.-The prenatal sonography identifies patient in risk that should belong with appropriate decisions and interventionist attitude.
