Abstract

RIVERA, Lorgio. Situs inversus. Rev. bol. ped. [online]. 2003, vol.42, n.3, pp.175-176. ISSN 1024-0675.

Situs inversus is a congenital anomaly characterized by its mirror image, the tip of the heart is located in the right side of the chest, the liver in the left side, the stomach in the right and the cecum in the left side of the abdomen. Early diagnosis is important in order to avoid complications due to the abnormal position of the organs, which would lead to diagnoses problems if the exact anatomy of the patient is not known. We described this abnormality in a 12-year-old child, diagnosed in a routine check up. Some patients have absolutely no problems and are able to lead a completely normal life and diagnosis is usually casual.
