Abstract
MEDINA-LEAL, Nelson et al. Progression of cardiovascular pathologies and analysis of the compensation of hypertension and diabetes in Chilean population between 2014 and 2018. Gac Med Bol [online]. 2025, vol.48, n.2, pp.13-20. Epub Dec 31, 2025. ISSN 1012-2966. https://doi.org/10.47993/gmb.v48i2.1112.
Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in the world, claiming 17,9 million lives each year. The need arises to study the population enrolled in the cardiovascular health program, and to benefit the health of the population through prevention and promotion strategies, promoting self-care and healthy practices.
Objectives:
A) To determine the progression of cardiovascular pathologies in the Chilean population over 15 years of age under the control of the cardiovascular program between the years 2014 to 2018 between the years 2014 to 2018. B) To determine the degree of compensation of the Chilean population over 15 years of age with a diagnosis of hypertension (HTA) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) under the control of the cardiovascular program between the years 2014 to 2018.
Methods:
Descriptive study, observational design, cross-sectional with retrospective temporality and quantitative approach.
Results:
It was observed that high classification cardiovascular (CV) risk predominates. It was evident that CV risk increases progressively during the years evaluated, being more prevalent in women and adults aged 65 years and older. The most frequent CV pathologies were HTN, Dyslipidemia and DM. Furthermore, it was evidenced that the high degree of decompensation in HTN and DM increases progressively.
Conclusions:
It is expected to contribute to improving the compensation of the affected population, through a correct allocation of resources, improving public policies, promoting the promotion and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, thus giving the population knowledge and empowerment about self-care, allowing them to actively participate for the benefit of your health.
