Resumen

ARCIENEGA LLANO, Eligio  y  GUZMAN CARRIZO, Brenda Melina. Reconstructive plastic surgery in basal cell carcinoma: case series. Gac Med Bol [online]. 2025, vol.48, n.1, pp.171-176.  Epub 30-Jun-2025. ISSN 1012-2966.  https://doi.org/10.47993/gmb.v48i1.966.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer, accounting for 80% of non-melanoma cancer cases. It has slow growth and low metastatic potential, which gives it a favorable prognosis. However, during its progression, it can cause severe deformities due to the destruction of soft tissue, cartilage, and bone.

Case Presentation:

In this work, we present three cases of basal cell carcinoma with chronic progression, which posed a challenge for surgical treatment due to their size and anatomical location. Despite these challenges, reconstruction of critical areas was achieved, preserving both functionality and aesthetics. Case Progression: In none of the cases was there a recurrence of cancerous lesions after long-term follow-up.

Conclusion:

Surgery, along with reconstructive techniques, is the most effective treatment for advanced cases, achieving good aesthetic and functional outcomes. In the cases presented, histopathological analysis showed clear surgical margins without neoplastic lesions, and long-term follow-up showed no evidence of recurrence.
