Abstract

Objectives:

To describe the epidemiological, clinical and laboratory findings of cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) confirmed by PCR-TR (polymerase chain reaction in real-time), attended in the paediatrics service of the Solomon Klein Hospital, designated as sentinel centre during the 2020 management period.

Methods:

The study was transversal, descriptive, and quantitative; patients from 0 to 15 years of age, selected by simple random sampling, were included.

Results:

Of the total patients studied, 53,3% were neonates, 35,6% presented comorbidity, 75,6% had close contact, 57,7% presented a mild clinical picture, the most present symptoms were fever 24,4% and vomiting 33,3%.

Conclusions:

The majority of patients with COVID-19 in the study population were neonates, followed by adolescents, who presented a mild clinical picture, with non-specific signs and symptoms, very different from the adult picture.
