ARCE CARDOZO, Rodrigo K.  e  ALVAREZ ANTEZANA, Arturo. Alcohol consumption, parent involvement, and other predictors of suicide in the Bolivian youth. Gac Med Bol [online]. 2017, vol.40, n.1, pp.29-34. ISSN 1012-2966.

Objectives: To asses protective and risk factors in school adolescents in Bolivia and found data that could be useful in the development of identification and prevention interventions in the population at risk. Methods: Using the data from the Global School Health Survey, we selected the variables and conducted a statistical study using chi square to determine statistical significance of the distribution of the variables. Furthermore, to conduct a univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis with an alpha significance of 0.05. Results: the risk factors with statistically significant correlation with suicide in school adolescents are: Bullying, tobacco use, alcohol use. Between the protective factors we found a statistically significant correlation with: parents understanding their problems, parents knowing where their children are at their free time, parents checking their homework, and physical activity. Conclusions: both the risk factors and protective factors are an important reference to identify adolescents in risk of suicide, which give us an important framework to focus efforts for the prevention of this preoccupying situation in Bolivia.
