Abstract

Objectives: identify the most common germs found in bite wounds, their sensitivity to antibiotics and effective in controlling wound infections with amoxicillin / clavulanic acid and dicloxacillin. Methods: the study was prospective, longitudinal and descriptive, from August 2010 until February 2011, in the emergency department of the Hospital del Niñ@ Manuel Ascencio Villarroel, 40 patients between 9 months and 14 years with injuries animal bites were admitted, of which samples were taken for culture, it was started ramdomized treatment with Amoxicillin / clavulanic acid or dicloxacillin, summoning them 72 hours to monitor for signs of infection in the wound. Results: of the 40 samples, 24 cases (60%) was isolated Staphylococcus aureus, Pasteurella multocida in 4 cases, in 2 cases, both isolated and in 10 cases are not isolated either. Amoxicillin / clavulanate was used in 28 cases Dicloxacillin in 12 cases. Ten cases were infected despite prophylacticantibiotic started. Conclusions: S aureus and P multocida are the most common aerobesin animal bite wounds. Both antibiotics, amoxicillin / clavulanic acid and dicloxacillin are proportionately effective in controlling infections.
