Abstract

Objectives: To describe the diagnostic utility, of the instillation needle aspiration (PIA) and blood culture in soft tissue infections in children in the Infectology Service at the Hospital del Niñ@ Manuel Ascencio Villarroel. Methods: A prospective cross sectional study, we included patients in the study period that is accompanied by soft tissue infection, cellulitis, phlegmon, abscess formation, a sample of the lesion infiltrating sterile water sucking the same 30 patients who culture and sensitivity testing was performed and blood cultures were sent simultaneously. SPSS software was used for statistical analysis. Results: It was found that from 30 children 16 were boys and 14 girls, whose ages ranged from 1 month to 8 years old, by the instillation-aspiration needle method was obtained that 43.3% 56.6% positive and negative, on the blood cultures were negative 93.3% and 6.6% positive. PIA agents were isolated in 53.8% Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes 7.69%, 7.69% Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumani 15.38% while blood culture was isolated by S. Aureus. Conclusions: PIA diagnostic methods is most useful in soft tissue infections, for the shortest time, lower cost, more positive in relation to blood culture.
