Abstract
CAMACHO CLAROS, Claudia; BRANEZ GARCIA, Cristian Alexander; PARDO NOVAK, Antonio and ORDONEZ MAYGUA, Javier. Iterative cesarean sections - experiences in the Maternal and Child Hospital "German Urquidi" in Cochabamba 2006 - 2007 - 2008. Gac Med Bol [online]. 2010, vol.33, n.2, pp.16-20. ISSN 1012-2966.
No doubt that the cesarean operation has contributed to the decrease of maternal perinatal mortality rate; nevertheless, we should not underestimate the great number of possible complications. Therefore, the present work pursues to identify the incidence of iterative cesarean operations as a cause of maternal morbimortality. From 2006 to 2008, a descriptive, retrospective, study was carried out taking samples from 1802 patients selected according to the inclusion criteria for this study, and whose data was gathered upon revision of clinical histories, change- of-duty record books, nursing and anesthesiology logs. It was observed that there were aspects already known about our population such as low levels of prenatal controls, surgeries of emergency iterative cesarean operations, and so on, having determined as the predominant indicative such pregnancies of supposedly large products, which do not match the newborn recorded weights. It draws our attention that, even to a large extent, a prior cesarean is still considered an indicative for cesarean replication, with post-cesarean logical complications such as infections, hemorrhages, obstetric hysterectomies, especially for placental accretism, with a significant percentage of patients treated with blood products and in maternal intensive care. In regard to pregnancy resolution it was observed that 34% of the patients under study concluded their pregnancy with a cesarean. This figure is too high if compared with other locations in the continent, which should lead us to reflection with the purpose of changing conducts for the well-being of our population.
