Unstable thorax handling at Clinical Hospital Viedma. Gac Med Bol [online]. 2009, vol.32, n.2, pp.23-28. ISSN 1012-2966.

This paper presents a descriptive, prospective, analytical, management conducted during 2008 in the Viedma Hospital, whose main objective is to know the clinical and surgical management of patients with Flail Chest, entered the hospital during such management. The universe includes all patients admitted to the HCV diagnosed with flail chest between January and December 2008, the sample is represented by fifteen patients treated in the HCV with the diagnosis of flail chest. Through data collection logbooks of emergency room and surgical patients, review of relevant medical records and follow up patients discharged from the institution, obtained a total of 15 patients in the HCV with the diagnosis of flail chest, all male and of working age with a mean of 45 years, 80% result of traffic accident. The overall mortality of the series was 33%, 20% linked to complications for the same condition, 13% was managed in the ICU room, 7% died in emergencies. In 73% of cases they were hemodynamically stable patients, the remaining 23% entered unstable.
