Abstract

VIH/AIDS is currently a big publich health problem which is growing all over the world and also in Bolivia. It is noy only confined to adult populations, but children too. The VIH/AIDS pediatric cases enter on contex when the mothers recieve a diagnose of VIH positive. The objetive of this work was to know most remarkable aspects about epidemiolgy, social, familial and clinics of 27 young children born from mothers with VIH/SIDA at Children's Hospital "Manuel Ascencio Villarroel" from Cochabamba-Bolivia during 2005 -2007 period. It is a transversal descriptive study carried out reviewing clinical histories and data was layed out on a questionary form, at Pediatric Infectology external service. 27 young chlidren born from mothers with VHI/AIDS were studied. 51.8% were male. 80,8% come from urban área. Most of them had a uniparental relationship. 15% lost one of their parents in the last 2 years because of the HIV/SIDA. Most of them had an low economic and social level. Most of parents wewnon married but living together. 81.8% of mothers did not know their diagnosis during the pregnancy and the small remaining, recieved prophylactic tretment, wihch 30% turned out seronegative. 44.5% were diagnose as VIH/SIDA, 37% are awaiting confirmation. All children with VIH + treatment had a remarkable immunological and pondoestatural improvement. We concluded that the reality of young children born from VIH/SIDA mothers in the departament of Cochabamba is dificult since the prevalence is 1.5% passing from be a incipient to concentrated epidemy; At social, familial and clinical aspectos there are a mínimum difference compared with world wide reality.
