Abstract

LARA PRADO, Ronald M.; PEREZ NOGALES, Brenda; VEGA GUZMAN, Andrea  and  MARTINEZ, Giancarla. Pirólisis de residuos de Bertholletia excelsa, nuez amazónica boliviana. Rev. Bol. Quim [online]. 2023, vol.40, n.2, pp.15-20. ISSN 0250-5460.  https://doi.org/10.34098/2078-3949.40.2.3.

Pyrolysis of residues of Bertholletia excelsa, Bolivian amazon nut. The pyrolysis of amazon nut inner shells obtained from Bolivian producers was carried out in two stages. The first stage analyzes the temperature and the time of pyrolysis in three levels. The experiments were performed at atmospheric pressure and 10mL/min of constant nitrogen flow. The second stage analyzes the effect of a drying pretreatment of the inner shells to see the effect over the product properties. The present work evaluates the behavior of the obtained biochar, bio-oils, and biogases with respect to production yield (final mass of each fraction compared to the initial mass), density, pH and other parameters. Under the applied conditions, it was determined that the drying pretreatment does not improve the properties, but on the contrary, it leads to yield losses of the bio-oils, and a considerable viscosity decrease. Finally, with respect to obtaining better products, it was determined that the temperature with the best product distribution, and keeping a balance between the measured properties, is 575°C with a pyrolysis time of 60 minutes. These conditions produced the following yields: 34%, 27%, and 38% for biochar, bio-oils and biogases, respectively. *Mail to: ronaldlp@kth.se
