The main source of drinking water in many urban centers and rural areas of Bolivia is Groundwater. This is the case of the Municipality of San Pedro located in the department of Santa Cruz. The present study was carried out to determine the physicochemical quality of groundwater used for consumption in 16 rural communities located within the municipality of San Pedro. The results showed slightly alkaline pH values between 7.8 and 8.6 and electrical conductivity in the range 313.3 to 1189 µS/cm. The waters are predominantly of the Na-HCO3 type and contain high concentrations of fluoride (F-) in in the range 2.1 to 6.4 mg/L, exceeding thus, the maximum value recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Saturation index (SI) calculations showed that the mineral phase that could give rise to the high F- content in water is (F-Apatite).
