Abstract

MESA MESA, Liliana  and  FALCON HERNANDEZ, José. Assessmentofthe pollution degree by petroleum in waters of the bay of santiago de cuba. Rev. Bol. Quim [online]. 2017, vol.34, n.2, pp.56-64. ISSN 0250-5460.

The bay of Santiago de Cuba is considered by stock market because of its configuration, which presents a narrow entrance channel that limits the renewal of its waters, favoring pollution processes. The main objective of the investigation is the determination of the presence of hydrocarbons in the bay water, using methods of physical-chemical analysis. For the development of the experimental part, samples of sea water were taken at selected points ("Guillermón Moneada" Port, "La Estrella" Beach and Oxidation Lagoon Zone of the "Hermanos Díaz" refinery). The methods of spectrophotometry and surface tensión were applied. The obtained valúes were evaluated and compared with results of previous studies, demonstrating results of contamination by hydrocarbons in the study área.
