The social phenomenon of human lactation has been approached from three main perspectives: prolactation, lactivist and feminist. Although they reflect different trends and positions, sometimes at odds with each other, a critical review of all three opens the debate on the contradictory relationship between economic production and social reproduction, particularly through care work and the provision of breast milk in the era of progressive neoliberalism.
