In this document, the result of the Seminar in honor of Alain Touraine, held at the Sociology Program of UMSA, the central focus is the influence of his thought and his research concerning social movements in Bolivia, through the contributions that have been assimilated and applied to Bolivia’s social and political processes. While outlining the background of sociology in Bolivia and the national and international context, the document also presents the relevant and innovative aspects of actionalism theory, sociological intervention, and the working methods of sociologists in their relationship with collective actors, from the perspective of social conflict, the historicity of society, and historical action, in debate and dialogue with other currents of sociology.
