This article explores contemporary migration in an intermediate city in Argentina and investigates the particular modes of urban and social integration of the migrant population and the tensions raised by their presence. Using a qualitative methodology, firstly, it reconstructs the urban and population transformations of the city of Rafaela from a historical perspective, based on the different migratory dynamics. Secondly, it reflects on the possibilities and difficulties of recent migrants living in the city, from arrival to the present day. The work seeks to break down the barriers that have been informally established in research on migration that separate those coming from abroad from those originating in the interior of the country.
