This article analyzes how the arrival of used cars, locally known as ‘chutos,’ has transformed socioeconomic dynamics in the rural communities and semi-rural towns of the Yungas of La Paz, Bolivia. Through an ethnographic approach, the article explores the implications of this new form of mobility in the daily lives of the inhabitants, to discuss new ruralities in light of their encounter with neoliberal globalization.
