Abstract

LOAYZA BUENO, Rafael. Racism as an anomaly. Epistemological approach to the object of study. Temas Sociales [online]. 2023, n.53, pp.215-246.  Epub Nov 30, 2023. ISSN 0040-2915.  https://doi.org/10.53287/yojp3153ax75p.

With respect to the theory of structuration, this essay sketches an epistemological approach to racism as an object of study, understanding analytical categories such as “ethnic self-affirmation” and “racial personification” as similar to those of “regularity” and “anomaly”. The author proposes that the processes of “differentiation” and “hierarchizatión” of modern society (derived from the structuration of “integration”) are devalued in the epiphenomena of “discrimination” and “segregation”, due to the identity tractions of ethnic similarity and racial difference.

Keywords : Differentiation and hierarchization; praxis; racism; anomaly; social integration; discrimination; segregation; identity; stratification; structuring; agency; similarity; ethnicity; self-affirmation; personification.
