Abstract

PAZ RADA, Eduardo. The sociology of Niklas Luhmann (I): meaning and communication. Temas Sociales [online]. 2023, n.53, pp.151-176.  Epub Nov 30, 2023. ISSN 0040-2915.  https://doi.org/10.53287/mgfk3382fw49z.

In the history of sociological thought, after the classics in the 19th century, there have been few theoretical paradigms that have defined the deepest and most important scope of the field of research and scientific knowledge of society. Undoubtedly, structural-functionalism has defined the frameworks of academic sociology and its projections and it is, based on these criteria and a deep critique and review of this perspective, that Niklas Luhmann’s sociology appears as a new “great theory” that incorporates a renewed and complex theoretical analysis, deepens classic concepts, produces new concepts, debates theories and elaborates, builds and bases a battery of new definitions that, together, becomes a theoretical revolution in sociology.

Keywords : Social systems; meaning; communication; system-environment; double contingency; social action; sociology; sociological thought; structuralfunctionalism; Niklas Luhmann-theory; autopoietic.
