Resumen

PERALES, Víctor Hugo. Keys to water crisis management in La Paz. Temas Sociales [online]. 2023, n.53, pp.11-52.  Epub 30-Nov-2023. ISSN 0040-2915.  https://doi.org/10.53287/towdd3794kj67g.

This paper reflects on the capabilities of the La Paz public water company (Public Social Water and Sanitation Company, EPSAS) to face a new water crisis. To do so, supply and demand for water, as well as water management, are analyzed in relation to the water crisis. The residents of La Paz are included as actors in their relationship with institutions such as EPSAS, the Municipal Government, Authority for Oversight and Social Control of Drinking Water and Basic Sanitation (AAPS), among others, as well as with the hydraulic infrastructure and sector norms. Interviews with experts and database consultations were conducted for this analysis. Findings indicate that, facing the threat of droughts, the infrastructure problem is no longer centered on water capture, but on water distribution. Therefore, contingency plans must be socialized to enable adaptability to water stress.
