The paper analyzes the difficulties that Carlos Medinaceli experienced in publishing his books between 1931 and 1947. This case shows a more general context of reduction in the number of printing presses and titles published locally since the Chaco War, and demonstrates a trend of deterioration in the Bolivian intellectuals’ conditions of production caused by the economic crisis and ideological polarization of the 1930s.
