Abstract

CHOQUE ALDANA, Marlene. A sociological approach to femicide: Situations and escalations in La Paz and El Alto. Temas Sociales [online]. 2020, n.47, pp.68-97. ISSN 0040-2915.

This article presents the insights of a research project conducted on femicides in the cities of La Paz and El Alto. In situations of violence, individual, structural and circumstantial elements converge. Femicide is not an isolated event. It is the result of an accumulative process in which three changes are observed: the escalation and combination of types of violence (psychological, physical, sexual); discursive changes (from pleas on the part of agressors, to threats), and the loss of autonomy of the victims.

Keywords : femicide; social problem; La Paz; El Alto.
