Abstract The conference “The transformation of the university in Bolivia”, by Mauricio Lefebvre, was presented in the seminar “Bolivia’s first social week” held in Oruro en 1970; it is framed by the process of institutional revolution which the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA) was carrying forth at the time. Despite 50 years having gone by since then, it is a legacy of the values and principles which should sustain the function of a university at the service of its society
