Abstract faced by transnational identities, the state appears to have lost protagonism as a referent for identity and also as a framework for analysis of social processes. This essay aims to analyse the characteristics, actuality and political potential of identity anchored in the nation-state. The reflection is based on the contribution of Rita Segato and her differentiation between historical alterity and political identities.
