Abstract This article develops a theoretical approach to the popular and polemical concept of violence, proposing an operational definition of physical violence. It displays real cases of violence from the perspective of the victims, classified according to the actors involved in each violent act and analyzed en descriptive and theoretical terms. The cited testimonies were selected from a sample of 417 cases of violence with the aim of highlighting the heterogeneity of these acts as well as the múltiple causal factors involved.
